Kevin Tway, the son of 1986 PGA Championship winner Bob Tway, has grown into his place on the PGA Tour and finally picked up his first victory by making three birdies in a playoff to beat two proven winners.

Tway wasn’t seriously in the mix until the end of regulation when he birdied the 17th and 18th holes for a closing 71, then watched as Snedeker could not close out a tournament he had dominated for much of the time.

The victory allowed the Tways to join a select group of 10 father-son winners on the PGA Tour.

“He’s pretty proud of me,” Kevin said of his father. “It’s been a long road.”

Snedeker briefly led by five strokes during the final round but his advantage melted away. Leading by a stroke at the par-4 17th, Snedeker hit his tee shot in the left rough then tried to carry a tree with his approach shot. His ball clipped the top of the tree and fell into some mulch, compounding his problems and leading to a bogey. With a closing 74, he fell into the three-way playoff.

On his first extra hole, Snedeker was eliminated after missing a 10-foot birdie putt.

When Moore birdied three of the last four holes, he suddenly had a share of the lead with Snedeker, who was fighting his way to the finish.

“My swing didn’t feel that great,” said Moore, who shot 67 Sunday. “I had to grind a little bit and find a key for the day. I started hitting some better shots and I was just able to put together a round of golf. A day like today it’s just how you’re able to get the ball in the hole.”
