Ping Introduces Glide Forged Wedges

Known for their cast irons and wedges, PING’s last venture into forged territory was their Anser irons in 2012. However, in order to give their players wedges a softer feel, PING introduces the PING Glide Forged Wedge to their already stellar lineup of Glide wedges.

Traditionally, irons and wedges were forged – that is, they were handcrafted using a hammer, an anvil, and extremely hot temperatures. Casting was often thought to produce substandard quality and imperfections if the temperatures inside the molds that were used were not carefully controlled.

However, those concerns with casting have been, for the most part, remedied and most irons and wedges are now cast. But for those who prefer the traditional sound and feel of a forged wedge, PING has stepped in to provide a solid wedge using traditional methods, but with the latest in technology and innovation.

That technology includes forged 8620 carbon steel with a semi-concealed tungsten weight which provides forgiveness on mishits.

The face of the wedge features a CNC machined face with wheel-cut grooves which promotes a lower launch with higher spin so you can better control your ball flight and the ball’s stopping power, perfect for stopping shots on a dime for birdie looks. The CNC machined face also offers a stable, muted impact experience, preferred by better players.

You’ll also find the leading edge is more rounded with more heel-toe camber so that it plays between a thin and standard sole width, thus offering optimal turf interaction and the ability to play a greater variety of wedge shots, from the fairway, rough and around the greens.

Players will also appreciate the Hydropearl 2.0 chrome finish which is water repellant to promote improved spin consistency from wet grass and the rough.

PING Ambassador Bubba Watson put the Glide Forged Wedges in his bag earlier this summer and saw success almost immediately, with a win at the Travelers Championship and T13 at A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier.

As part of PING’s customization program, golfers can choose one of four graphics and multiple stamping options to personalize their new wedges.

Available lofts include 50º, 52º, 54º, 56º, 58º and 60º, and a variety of bounce options are also available.
