TaylorMade scores with third-generation P•790 irons and MG3 wedges
When TaylorMade launched its game-changing P•790 irons two years ago, it would have been easy to argue that the company had perfected its player’s distance irons and there was no room left for improvement.
The key technology continues to be the company’s patented SpeedFoam Air – and in the latest generation, that core is a whopping 69 percent less dense. The result is an average weight reduction of 3.5 grams, allowing for substantial redistribution of mass, lower center of gravity placement, and improved launch properties.
Beyond those improvements, the P•790s now feature their thinnest face ever as well as Intelligent Sweet Spot placement that provides performance where golfers need it most.
“SpeedFoam Air is the heartbeat of the new P•790 irons,” said Matt Bovee, Senior Manager of Product Creation for TaylorMade. “The development of this lightweight urethane material allowed us to strategically reconstruct the iron head to promote optimal launch conditions and a sweet spot that covers the most common strike points on the face.”
Golfers considering an upgrade to the new P•790s may also want to add TaylorMade’s new Milled Grind 3 wedges to their bags. MG3 features Raw Face Technology, with an unplated surface material that rusts over time, preserving consistent spin and providing improved performance in wet conditions. Raised Micro-Ribs further enhance those benefits.
“Wedges have to be versatile and exacting, whether it’s a full swing from 100 yards, a touchy 15-yard pitch that needs to stop quickly or any distance in between,” said TaylorMade Putter and Wedge Product Creation Manager Bill Price. “With Milled Grind 3, we’ve designed a wedge that’s capable of delivering optimal spin on every shot from every distance.”
