SOUTHAMPTON, Bermuda – It took a long time. Seven years, and 169 starts. But, for a 48-year-old, it might as well been two decades or longer.
After carding a final round 64, including a birdie on the final hole of regulation, and then winning with a birdie on the first hole of the playoff, the victory was extra sweet for Brian Gay.
It’s his fifth career win on the PGA Tour and he now becomes the oldest player since Davis Love III in 2015 to pull off a win against the young guys.
His win also gets him into next year’s Sentry Tournament of Champions, PLAYERS Championship, and Masters Tournament, and he picks up 500 FedExCup points along the way.
And a full exemption on TOUR through the 2022-23 season.
