Bubba Watson Wins 2018 Travelers Championship

June 24, 2018 – Bubba Watson – Travelers Championship

By Staff and Wire Reports of Global Golf Post

Bubba Watson is writing a brilliant comeback story this year after a 2017 season in which he fell outside the top 100 in the world, leading to suggestions that his career might be on the decline.

With a health issue behind him, Watson has won three times this year and is making a case for Player of the Year honors while virtually locking down a spot on the U.S. Ryder Cup team this fall. It is Watson’s 12th PGA Tour victory and it came at the same spot where he won for the first time in 2010.

For all the understandable focus on Watson’s immense power, he’s as much an artist as a bomber. His ability to shape shots in both directions and his desire to do that works beautifully at TPC River Highlands.

Watson put a beautiful finishing touch on his final round when he danced a 77-yard downwind wedge shot to within 2 feet of the hole for a closing birdie that seemed critical at the time.

“The shot on 18 was very difficult,” Watson said. “Somehow pulling it off, that’s what we all try to do on Sundays.”

Ping G400 LS Tec DriverCasey started the day in command, having built a four-stroke lead on the strength of a Saturday 62. As good as the third round was for Casey, the final 18 holes was the opposite. He never generated any positive momentum and when Watson posted 17-under par with Casey still having four holes remaining, the challenge was clear.

It was too much for Casey, who missed a 4-foot par putt on the 16th hole to fall two behind, then hit his tee shot into the water on the par-4 17th hole to end his chance.

“Incredibly frustrating,” Casey said.

For Watson, who changed the brand of ball he’s using this year and began traveling in an RV with his family to tournaments, a big season continues to get bigger.
