Callaway Custom Wedge Programs

By: John Steinbreder – Global Golf Post

customEarlier this year, Callaway Golf introduced MD3 milled wedges. Designed by Roger Cleveland, they employed a technology called Progressive Groove Optimization, which relies on a three-groove package that is precision-milled into the club face to optimize spin as a player goes from lower to higher lofted clubs.

To make it easier to find the MD3 best suited an individual’s game, Cleveland developed three grinds for the line: the W-grind, which has a slightly wider sole and is targeted for play in softer conditions and for those individuals with steeper angles of attack; the C-grind, for firmer turf and golfers who like to open up the club face and keep the leading edge low; and the S-Grind, which is made to be the most versatile of the bunch.

spinNow, the equipment maker is taking personalization with the MD3s to a different level with the rollout of a pair of programs.

One of those is called Callaway Customs, and it lets people customize their wedges online through a six-step process, starting with finishes, paint fills and the stamping of letters and text on the clubs, as well as symbols and colors. It also allows them to select from a range of head, shaft and grip options.

At the same time, Callaway has created a Tour Limited option, and each month will be offering a limited number of wedges that are designed by Cleveland and stamped, paint-filled and sand-blasted by Anthony Taranto, who does similar work for Callaway’s tour professionals.
