Collin Morikawa won the WGC-Workday Championship at The Concession Golf Club by shooting 69, finishing at 18 under par, three strokes of Billy Horschel, Brooks Koepka, and Viktor Hovland.
Morikawa credited both Mark O’Meara and Paul Azinger in his post-round interview, but rest assured, this young man has some talent. After an opening round 70, Morikawa birdied 20 of his next 45 holes using a new putting grip he committed to.
In Sunday’s final round, he had to deal with Viktor Hovland, Scottie Scheffler, and Brooks Koepka giving chase. But in the end, his lead and his final round of 69 were just too much for them to overcome.
“It shows that I can come out here and compete,” he said of closing out his first-ever 54-hole lead on the PGA Tour. “What a week. I was working on so much over the last couple of weeks … My game felt so good. I’m so excited right now.”
