As far as the folks at FootJoy are concerned, their newest shoe offering is so groundbreaking that it constitutes an entirely new category. They call it FreeStyle, and they say it is designed for golfers who want to be able to roll uninhibited through their swings while also maintaining maximum traction.
“FreeStyle is arguably FootJoy’s most imaginative and distinctive shoe ever and will particularly help golfers who would benefit from increased freedom of movement,” says Doug Robinson, the company’s vice president of design and development worldwide. “By drawing inspiration from a tree frog and emulating its incredible grip and flexibility properties in the texture and functional elements of an outsole, our team has created something truly unique.”
But Robinson is quick to point out that the shoes do not compromise on grip, thanks to F.R.O.G.S technology, which is designed to increase ground contact throughout the swing through the use of a SoftMax translucent outsole. A new FTF 3.0 midsole compound is considered the softest and most comfortable FootJoy has produced, while a Softspikes Tour Lock system and Pulsar cleats are made to provide superior, low-profile traction.
An InnerSok Fit System that includes both TongueLok and HeelLok mechanisms holds the player’s foot securely in place, Robinson adds, and a lightweight performance mesh upper is crafted to be both breathable and durable.
Available in six different color options and traditional and Boa lacing systems, FreeStyle comes with a two-year waterproof warranty.
