According to Bob Lamkin, the president and chief executive officer of the grip company that bears his family name, the new Z5 grip features five distinctive “zones” that have been engineered to promote proper hand placement with each shot as it also enhances comfort, control and consistency. Hence the name, Z5.
Zones 1 and 2 boast a deeper horizontal pattern and soft cord weave designed to deliver exceptional traction and what he calls “slip-free grip confidence” in all weather conditions. As for Zone 3, it includes two panels made to secure a golfer’s thumb in a consistent grip position as the simulated rope texture reinforces club control without excessive grip pressure.
Touring professionals believe that is a critical performance attribute in a club grip, and they also like one that makes it easy for them to properly position their lower hand. Lamkin says the Z5 does that in spades, thanks to a V-shaped dividing groove that separates Zones 4 and 5. A shallow, micro-texture material is also employed in those regions to provide a softer, smoother and more comfortable feel.
