March 25, 2018 – Bubba Watson – WGC Dell Technologies Match Play

Ping G400 LST DriverSix weeks ago, Bubba Watson was ranked 117th in the world after a flat 2017 and had fallen out of the discussion about the game’s top players. Then he won the Genesis Open at Riviera Country Club for the third time and suddenly the old Bubba was back.

After his dominating performance in Sunday victories against Justin Thomas and Kevin Kisner, Watson suddenly looms as a serious threat to win his third green jacket at the Masters next week.

“I got off to a hot start and just focused on golf,” Watson said.

Kisner made it easy on Watson in the final, making bogeys on five of the first seven holes to siphon any potential drama from the championship match.

“It was one of those deals, every time I looked up it was going nowhere near where I was looking,” Kisner said.

Ping G Fairway WoodWith Austin Country Club playing firm and fast, Watson was able to take advantage of his length to overwhelm the par-5s but his victory wasn’t built solely on his power. He played to strategic spots when necessary and relied on his short game and putting to do the rest.

Watson combined his power with his imagination and it was enough to earn him his 11th PGA Tour victory and virtually assure him a spot on the U.S. Ryder Cup team this fall. It also.was Watson’s second World Golf Championship victory to go with the 2014 WGC-HSBC Champions.

Kisner had advanced to the final by beating Alex Norén on the 19th hole in the semifinals. Norén defeated Thomas, 5 and 3, in the consolation match.
