October 15, 2017 – Pat Perez – CIMB Classic

By: Global Golf Post

One year ago, Pat Perez was in Malaysia starting a comeback from shoulder surgery, uncertain about his future in the game. A year later, Perez has won twice and the 41-year-old is in the prime of his career.

“Everything is just going unbelievable. My wife is unbelievable, (swing coach) Drew Steckel, my caddie, everybody is just … our circle, it’s just there,” Perez said “I can’t explain it. It’s been just a lot of work and a lot of dedication and it’s all coming together.”

PPWIN2Perez said he surprised himself by winning because he didn’t feel well when he arrived in Malaysia. His shoulder had tightened up during the long trip, his back was bothering him and he felt under the weather, a bad combination in the intense heat and humidity in Kuala Lumpur.

He also hadn’t worked much on his game during a two-week break but it came together quickly in the first of three Asian events Perez will play to get a running start on his 2017-18 season.

With a four-stroke lead entering the final round, Perez made three early birdies Sunday and wasn’t seriously pushed on the closing nine as he won his third PGA Tour title.

“The fight that I had last (season) was so good because I played enough and I played hard enough to try and stay in that (top) so the whole year so I could get to the Tour Championship. That’s my main goal every year. One, to win, and then two, to get to the Tour Championship,” Perez said.

M2-17_DRV_3quarter“Now I’ve got half of it (for this season). I’ve got a long year ahead, there’s a lot of golf. So I would love to get back to Atlanta. It’s going to take a lot of great golf … So I don’t think I’ll really slow down too much this year.”
