PING’s i230 irons and Crossover geared toward avid players
Four years after the debut of PING’s hugely popular i210 irons, a new day has dawned – with the introduction of the i230 irons and iCrossovers. “The i230 irons and the iCrossovers are for avid players who want to get better,” according to PING CEO and President John K. Solheim.
Indeed, the i230 irons are ideal for low-handicap to mid-handicap golfers who crave the look, feel and workability of an “i”-style iron, but need the distance, launch angle and forgiveness of a game-improvement club.
Advancements in activated elastomer technology (they made it lighter) allowed PING to lower the CG, which leads to extra distance. Tungsten weights in the tip and toe lead to enhanced forgiveness. A redesigned cavity badge leads to improved sound and feel feedback.
In addition, PING has rebranded the Crossover, taking it from the G-series (game-improvement) to its i-series, geared toward the experienced player. Similar in head shape to the i230, these utility clubs are also a quarter-inch shorter than the previous generation and less offset, making them fully compatible with the i230s.
