LEMONT, Ill. – The score sheet will say England’s Justin Rose breezed to a wire-to-wire victory in the BMW Championship. Breezed? It was more like weathering Hurricane Irene.
Playing in steady rain, Rose nearly squandered a five-stroke lead after eight holes Sunday but held on with an even-par 71 to win the third PGA Tour playoff event, at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club. His 13-under-par 271 total was two shots better than steady Australian John Senden, who had closed within one of the lead after 15 holes.
Rose struggled through much of the back nine — missing four of five fairways and five of seven greens at one point — but sank a 35-foot chip shot from in front of the 17th green for birdie and a two-shot lead. Read More…
