Most golfers don’t think much about how a golf ball is painted. For 2026, TaylorMade decided it was worth a closer look. The result is the new TP5 and TP5x, now available at Worldwide Golf.
TaylorMade’s research team found that traditional paint applications can pool slightly in the bottom of dimples. It’s subtle, but that uneven layer can affect aerodynamics and lead to variations in ball flight.
To address that, TaylorMade introduced a new microcoating process designed to create an ultrathin, even layer of paint across the entire ball. By tightly controlling cure times, temperatures, and the precise amount of paint applied, the company refined the surface without altering the core performance design. The practical benefit for players is more predictable peak height, consistent carry distances, tighter left-to-right dispersion, and steadier flight, especially in the wind.

Five Layer Construction and Tour Flight Dimple Technology
Beyond the finish, both TP5 and TP5x continue with TaylorMade’s five-layer construction. Digital prototyping allowed engineers to analyze more than 100,000 design variations before settling on the final structure. The goal was straightforward: balance speed, spin, and consistency from driver through wedge.
The updated Tour Flight Dimple Pattern also plays a role. The reshaped dimples are designed to reduce turbulence and fine-tune lift and drag, helping produce a more penetrating trajectory.
TaylorMade TP5: Softer Feel with Increased Ball Speed

The 2026 TP5 remains the softer-feeling option in the lineup, but it’s also faster than previous generations. A larger Tour core reduces contact time at impact, improving energy transfer on full swings. Players who prefer a softer response off the face can expect solid speed with responsive greenside control.
Around the green, the cast urethane cover delivers the spin needed for controlled pitches and chips without feeling overly firm.
TaylorMade TP5x: Lower Spin and Faster Ball Speeds

TP5x is built for players chasing maximum speed and a firmer feel. New mantle materials help generate higher ball speeds, particularly with the driver and long irons, while the layered construction manages spin through the bag.
It remains the lower-spinning model of the two, making it a strong fit for players who want a flatter flight and added distance off the tee, without sacrificing control into the greens.
TP5 and TP5x Alignment and Visual Technology Options

TaylorMade continues to push visual technology with Stripe and pix designs, along with traditional white and yellow. The updated 360° Tour ClearPath Alignment on Stripe models features tighter feedback lines and a refined performance dot to help with alignment and focus on the greens.
