Worldwide Golf Shops acquires huge Golfdom store in McLean, Virginia

Worldwide Golf Shops has added another new store – and brand – to its portfolio of retail locations.
Last May, the company acquired Golfdom in McLean, VA, a beautiful 16,000-square-foot store less than a half hour away across the Potomac River from the nation’s capitol.

Originally opened in 1982 as Tyson’s Washington Golf, the store has grown and changed locations over the years until it was moved to its current spot in 1997. The store was renamed Golfdom in 1999, and was purchased in 2014 by Buddy Christensen, who began working at the company as a stock boy when he was in high school. He continued through college until eventually managing the store prior to purchasing it.

“This is truly the best of both worlds,” Christensen said. “One, we have access to the benefits of being in a larger group, but two, we can keep our individuality with some new improvements that help efficiencies.”

The Golfdom store features a country club feel and a huge selection of equipment, apparel, bags, shoes and accessories. It also specializes in club building and repair, and offers premium custom club fittings with three Trackman fitting bays to help golfers find the perfect set of clubs.

In addition, Golfdom boasts a highly experienced staff of 20-plus employees that have worked for the company for a combined 134 years and that have more than 200 years of combined industry experience.
