Si Woo Kim | The American Express

Si Woo Kim birdied two of the final three holes to finish an 8-under 64 sneaking in ahead a hot Patrick Cantlay by one shot to earn his third PGA TOUR victory.

“Every year, I’ve had a chance, but I couldn’t make it,” Kim said to the press by way of a translator. “I had a lot of resolve in my mind last night. I took melatonin, but still I didn’t sleep very well.”

Cantlay closed with a 6, breaking the course record by two shots on Sunday.

“I had to know what’s going on, so I knew how to play my game in the final round,” Kim said. “I knew Cantlay played really well. I tried to keep patient and believe in myself. I got the chance on 16 and 17, and that’s when I could make it. I feel good about myself.”

Cantlay’s hot round still only put him out front by on. Kim then closed with birdies on the par-5 16th and then the 17th to move back in front.

“Watts” in Si Woo’s bag:

Kim immediately put a Callaway Epic Speed Driver in the bag last week at the Sony Open, where our new Epic family of drivers debuted on Tour. He averaged 323 yards per drive yesterday in the third round of The American Express, and he’s hit over 72% of fairways so far in Palm Springs. The Epic Drivers have had a busy week on Tours around the world – there were 35 Epic models in play on the European Tour, Retief Goosen finished 2 with his new Epic Speed (and led the field in driving distance) on the Champions Tour, and Epic was our #1 driver model on the LPGA Tour. Callaway also won the driver count on all three of these tours (European, LPGA and Champions).

Si-Woo continues to use the 2020 Chrome Soft X Golf Ball, which is Callaway’s #1 Ball on Tour by far for players like Jon Rahm, Xander Schauffele and Phil Mickelson, among others. And he made clutch putts down the stretch with his Odyssey Toulon Madison.
