What Makes the Callaway Opus SP+ Wedge Stand Out

Every golfer knows the feeling of standing over a wedge shot with options. The thoughts start running through your head: should you play it high, flight it low, or try to land it soft near the pin?

The new Callaway Opus SP+ wedge, now available at Worldwide Golf, focuses on giving players more control in those moments. Through a raised center of gravity, updated face technology, and a tour-inspired shape, the SP+ is designed to produce a more penetrating flight and consistent performance from a variety of distances.

For players who want to control trajectory and spin rather than simply swing and hope, the Opus SP+ offers a different approach to the scoring clubs.

Spin Pocket Construction Raises the Center of Gravity

At the center of the Opus SP+ design is Callaway’s Spin Pocket construction. This re-engineered three-piece head reshapes internal mass to move weight higher in the clubhead.

That shift raises the center of gravity, which influences how the ball launches and spins. Instead of climbing too quickly, shots tend to launch lower with a more controlled, penetrating flight.

The benefit becomes especially noticeable on partial swings and approach shots where trajectory control matters most.

Tungsten Weighting Adds Stability and Spin

Additional mass in the back of the Callaway Opus SP+ positions the center of gravity even higher.

Additional mass plays a role as well. More than 13 grams of tungsten sit on the back of the wedge, working together with the Spin Pocket structure to position the center of gravity even higher.

Higher CG placement often produces stronger spin characteristics and a more controlled trajectory into the green. From full swings to delicate pitches, the goal remains the same: predictable launch and stopping power.

Spin Gen 2.0 Face Technology

Grooves with a 17-degree angle in the Opus SP+ increase the number of edges that contact the ball.

Callaway pairs the internal construction with its new Spin Gen 2.0 face design.

Grooves now feature a 17-degree angle and tighter spacing, which increases the number of edges that contact the ball at impact. A deeper cross-hatch laser pattern spreads across the face to increase friction from a wider range of lies.

Together, those elements help maintain spin whether the ball sits in the fairway, light rough, or a slightly damp lie.

Shape 6 Tour Profile

A tour-validated profile presents a clean look and a refined leading edge in the Callaway Opus SP+.

Visual confidence also plays a role in wedge performance. The Opus SP+ uses what Callaway calls Shape 6 – a tour-validated profile developed through multiple prototype iterations.

The shaping presents a clean look at address with a refined leading edge and carefully shaped sole geometry. Many players prefer this style because it frames the ball naturally without appearing oversized or bulky.

That combination of compact shape and thoughtful sole design helps players commit to the shot they see.

Loft and Grind Options

Multiple loft and grind options in the Opus SP+ give golfers flexibility when building out their set.

The Opus SP+ wedge is available in 54°, 56°, 58°, and 60° lofts, giving golfers flexibility when building out their set.

Callaway also offers multiple grind options – including Z, X, and S grinds – so players can match the wedge to their typical turf conditions and swing style.

Rather than replacing the standard Opus SP, the SP+ sits alongside it as a specialized option for golfers who prefer a lower, more controlled flight window.

Wedges often influence how you finish a hole. Once you’re inside scoring range, distance control, spin, and trajectory all come into play.

The Callaway Opus SP+ wedge focuses on those details through Spin Pocket construction, tungsten weighting, and the updated Spin Gen 2.0 face.
