How to Hit the Ball in the Center of the Face

When starting to play the game of golf, one of the more challenging tasks is not just learning how to hit the ball but learning to hit the ball in the center of the face on a consistent basis. If you are able to make clean, consistent contact, you will see your scores improve. In this Play Better Golf segment, Claude Harmon III, a teacher of some of the best players in the world and Cobra staffer, gives us a quick tip on how to hit the ball in the center of the club face.

Claude Harmon: I think the most important thing for beginning golfers is to learn how to hit the golf ball in the center of the face every time. And when I see people trying to learn golf and trying to practice they’re tending to make too big of a golf swing and they can’t control it. So, one of the things that you can go and do when you go to practice

So, one of the things that you can go and do when you go to practice is just feel like you’re going halfway back and halfway through, so kind of waist-high back with your arms and waist-high through. And then you’re focusing on creating good, solid, clubface control and good contact. And

And it’s going to give you that little bit shorter swing, it’s going to give you just a little bit more control over the golf club. And you’re trying to make sure that you get a sense of where you’re hitting the golf club and the ball, that good, solid, contact, but you’re not overswinging. You’re going to have a little bit more control of the club face. You’re creating good sound, good contact, hit it in the center of the face that’s the easiest way to start to become a better golfer.
