Taylormade Stealth 2 Driver Review

TaylorMade Stealth 2 drivers are well-known for their performance, with the previous generation’s Stealth and Stealth Plus drivers landing in the bags of golf greats like Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. The TaylorMade Stealth 2 driver comes as an improvement on the performance of the first, but more importantly for your everyday golfer, an increase in forgiveness.

This feature means that a wider variety of golfers can take advantage of Taylormade’s signature distance, as the driver will now be more tolerant of off-center shots.

The Stealth 2 lineup delivers this in a few key ways:

  1. The club face has been made thinner at the edges and thicker in the perimeter, providing better ball speeds for off-center shots.
  2. Much of the titanium in the head has been replaced with carbon, and a carbon-reinforced composite ring reduces the head’s structural weight.
  3. Weights on the back of all drivers and a moveable weight at the front of the Stealth 2+ leverages this to create higher MOI to increase forgiveness.

These improvements lead to a club that performs incredibly for those who can reliably strike the ball with the center of the club face without abandoning non-tour pros looking to extract maximum performance from their golf swing.

TaylorMade Stealth 2 Driver Options

There are three drivers in the Stealth 2 lineup, the standard Stealth 2, an upgraded Stealth 2+, and an even more forgiveness-focused Stealth 2 HD (high draw).

How Does the TaylorMade Stealth 2 Driver Perform?

Our Director of Retail Marketing here at Worldwide Golf Shops went to The Kingdom in Carlsbad, CA, to get a custom driver fitting and test out the Stealth 2 lineup:

Take a look at our key takeaways for these drivers, followed by some final thoughts.

Bottom Line

The Stealth 2 driver lineup makes the industry-leading performance, looks, and sound of the Stealth series more accessible to a wider range of golfers. TaylorMade also did a much better job of developing a more significant and tangible difference between the different drivers, creating more customized options for the user than the previous generation.

With a proper, in-person custom fitting, the Stealth 2 family of drivers are better suited than ever to meet the needs of a wide range of golfers that their price point attracts.

I’ve been at Worldwide Golf Shops for 6 years, and I’ve been playing golf for 23 years. I have played a few mini tour events but now compete occasionally at the amateur level– currently a +2.1 handicap. I am a bit of a tinkerer when it comes to golf and golf clubs. I enjoy testing all aspects of different products, utilizing various fitting systems and learning about all the different club shafts, club lengths, golf balls, and putter styles. Not just for my game, but to help customers of all calibers.
