Callaway Golf rounds out its new XR 16 line of clubs with the XR 16 and XR 16 Pro fairway woods, and company engineers say they have made these sticks hotter and more forgiving than previous entrants in the category, for greater distance and more forgiveness.
The added heat, they aver, comes from improvements they have made to the Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup, which is now thinner and designed to bolster ball speed all across the clubface.
A more aerodynamic head shape also gives golfers more clubhead speed, those technicians add, and by elevating the XR 16’s moment of inertia, they have endeavored to improve forgiveness as they lower the center of gravity to promote a higher launch, whether one is hitting shots off a tee or the turf.
The XR 16 features a larger footprint and is geared toward the golfer who derives comfort and confidence from such a head shape. The club is available in seven lofts: 14, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23 and 25 degrees.
As for the XR 16 Pro, it boasts a more compact clubhead and comes in only three lofts: 14, 16 and 18 degrees.
