While most serious golfers likely will gravitate to the AP1, AP2, and AP3 models within the new 718 line from Titleist because of the combination of distance and forgiveness they offer, there are those players who will be drawn to the look and feel of the other members of that group – T-MB, CB and MB – as well as their performance attributes.

Justin Thomas is certainly a fan of the 718 MBs, as he used them to win the 2017 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow. And Jordan Spieth demonstrated his faith in T-MB when he selected a 3-iron bearing those letters to hit his now legendary shot off the practice ground by the 13th hole at Royal Birkdale on his way to capturing this year’s Open Championship. Other Titleist tour professionals have put these 718s into play this year, among them, Webb Simpson, who fancies the MB’s, Steve Stricker, who is a CB guy; and Russel Henley, who is playing T-MBs. And now, the clubs are available to the general public.

Initially developed as a high-launching long iron for better players, the T-MB is sold today as a full set, from 2-iron to pitching wedge. Titleist officials say the hollow-body construction works with a thin, unsupported L-Face insert to promote more flexing at impact, which increases speed and launch and by extension adds distance. The use of high-density tungsten weights in the heel and toe help to optimize launch and spin, while a high moment-of-inertia design enhances forgiveness and feel.

The 718 CBs also employ tungsten weighting in the heels and toes of the long and mid-irons to promote more consistent distances on off-center hits while so-called tungsten caps are added to maximize forgiveness without detracting from workability.

As for the MBs, which is forged from a single billet of carbon steel, they use high muscle-back weighting behind the sweet spot to enhance feel, control, and flight.
