PING has introduced two new models built around different ways to help you hit better iron shots. One leans heavily into forgiveness and higher launch for golfers who want more consistency from swing to swing. The other focuses on speed and precision in a players-style design that still delivers distance.
The new PING G740 and i540, now available at Worldwide Golf, approach performance from those distinct directions. Each reflects a thoughtful look at how golfers actually strike their approach clubs during a round.
G740: Forgiveness and Launch Built for Consistency

If you want help getting the ball airborne and keeping distance more consistent across the face, the G740 is built with that in mind. It sits squarely in the super-game-improvement category, where stability and ball speed matter most.
A noticeably wider sole and larger clubhead move mass low and back in the head. That positioning promotes higher launch and helps preserve ball speed when contact moves away from the center. The larger face expands the hitting area, giving slight misses a better chance to travel close to your intended distance.
PING engineers used an advanced heat-treating process on the 17-4 stainless-steel face to make it thinner and more flexible. That added flex contributes to faster ball speed while maintaining a solid feel at impact.
Inside the cavity, a three-piece PurFlex badge helps manage vibration and refine sound.
A Sole Designed to Move Through the Turf

The dual-camber sole in the G740 plays an important role in how the club interacts with the ground.
Two curved surfaces allow the sole to glide into and out of the turf smoothly while positioning the center of gravity low and deep in the head. If you tend to catch the ball slightly low on the face – a common strike pattern for many golfers – the design helps maintain launch and ball speed.
Perimeter weighting increases the club’s moment of inertia as well. In simple terms, the head resists twisting when contact moves away from the center.
The result is an iron built to help you launch the ball higher and hold greens more easily. A women’s version of the G740 is also available.
i540: Speed and Control in a Players Distance Shape

While the G740 focuses on forgiveness, the i540 takes a different approach.
If you prefer a more compact iron with a traditional look but still want extra speed, the i540 fits that category. It sits in the growing players-distance segment, where distance technology meets a cleaner profile.
A thinner topline, narrower sole, and shallower face create the look many golfers associate with a players iron.
Inside the head, tungsten weighting in the 4 through 7 irons lowers the center of gravity. That positioning helps generate faster ball speed while launching shots high enough to hold the green.
A forged maraging-steel face drives much of that performance. The thinner, more flexible face allows greater movement at impact, helping produce more speed across the face.
A Different Approach to Sound and Feel

PING introduced a unique internal structure in the i540. An air pocket inside the head – known as inR-Air technology – sits behind the face and helps control vibration at impact.
A supporting i-Beam structure adds rigidity to the stainless-steel body, balancing speed, structure, and feel.
If you like the appearance of a players iron but want modern distance technology inside the head, the i540 offers a compelling middle ground.

Irons shape how you play a course. Approach shots, tricky lies, and scoring chances all depend on clubs that match the way you swing.
The PING G740 and i540 irons take two distinct approaches to that challenge. One focuses on forgiveness and higher launch. The other blends speed and precision in a players-style shape.
If you’re considering a new set of irons, both models are now available.
