Kenny Perry won the U.S. Senior Open on Sunday, posting a record 16-under 264 total to finish two strokes ahead of Kirk Triplett. Perry shot rounds of 65-64-67-68 at Salem County Club. It was his second U.S. Senior Open title and his fourth major victory on the PGA Champions. The 56-year-old Kentuckian won his last U.S. Senior Open title in 2013 at Omaha (Neb.) Country Club.

“I felt ready to go today,” Perry said. “I had a good warm-up session…It’s our goal to always win our championship. I’ve never had such a mental challenge all week. It fell my way this week. I just can’t thank the USGA enough. This trophy goes back a long way.”

Kirk Triplett entered the final round with a one-shot advantage on Perry, but quickly fell out of the lead when he shot a 38 on the front nine and Perry birdies Nos. 1 and 6. “Well, I didn’t play very well,” Triplett said. “Kenny played nice. He had control of his ball right from the get-go. I did not so it was a real struggle for me.”

Americans finished in seven of the top nine spots on the leaderboard. Brandt Jobe finished in third at 9 under, Tom Lehman and Fred Couples tied for fourth at 8 under, Glen Day finished solo sixth at 6 under and Scott Verplank finished T7 at 5 under along with Canadian Stephen Ames and Fiji’s Vijay Singh.

Bernhard Langer fell short of winning his third consecutive senior major. He shot 67-65 for the first two days, but struggled during the weekend (72-74) to finish T18.
