[showhide type=”post” more_text=”Show more…” less_text=”Show less…”]Dave Pelz: My question to you is, from 75 feet do you putt better with a putting stroke or with the chip putt swing? You might not understand the question but look the point is when golfers when amateurs get far away from the hole, they tend to three-putt. Pros can lag it close and make the next putt no problem, amateurs three-putt six times at the rate the pros do. They put within 10, 15, 20 percent as good as the pros from short putts but on long putts, they’re really pretty pitiful. So here’s what I want you to do. I want you to run a test. Go to 75 feet, I have walked 75 feet from this hole, and I’m going to test two strokes. I want to hit six putts one way six putts the other way and I’m going to alternate. My first way is my normal putting stroke. It’s bet over, it’s a short putter and it is designed for accuracy. I take the putter straight back straight through, I try to start it online, I try to start it at the perfect speed, I sacrifice all power to hit accurate putts. When I get far away from the hole if I putt that way I leave them short. I can’t get them to the hole. I want to stand up and have a binocular view at the distance. I want to stand up and swing my putter with a chipping swing. This is what I do. I simply stand up here, I take a few practice swings like I’m going to his chip shot, and then I put it. Look here it goes. I’m not worried about making it, I’m worried about hitting it the right distance. That’s what you have to do. Get it close, two-putt go, to the next hole. When you have any putt over about 40 feet I want you to test this. I’ve got six yellow balls, six white balls, I chip-putted the white balls I putt-putted the yellow balls you can see the difference.[/showhide]
